Bleu Cheese Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 4 ounces crumbled blue cheese
  • 2 teaspoons distilled vinegar or white wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic or 1.5 teaspoons garlic granules
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon chives or parsley optional
  • A few drops of red wine vinegar optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper optional
  • Hot sauce or soy sauce optional

Instructions

  • Add the vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and pepper to the bowl. Whisk again until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  • Gently fold in the crumbled blue cheese until evenly distributed. For a smoother texture, you can mash the blue cheese with a fork before adding it to the mixture.
  • If you prefer a thinner dressing, gradually add more buttermilk until you reach your desired consistency. Alternatively, for a thicker dressing, let it rest for a couple of hours in the fridge.
  • Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dressing for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to allow the flavors to meld together. Before serving, taste and adjust the seasonings as needed.
  • When making bleu cheese dressing, remember that the resting time is essential for flavor development. Allowing the dressing to chill not only enhances the taste but also thickens the mixture.
  • Feel free to experiment with different types of blue cheese for varied flavors and consider adding hot sauce for a spicy kick. Always taste your dressing before serving to verify the seasonings are just right!
